1 Gasparilla pirate ship, bathrooms included. Price: $25K

Camille Matthews has a used vehicle to sell, and she’s ready to make you a deal.

It’s got a few miles on it, sure, but it’s a one-of-a-kind ride. It’s painted black with red, gold and blue trim. It’s 33 feet long, holds about 25, and has plenty of storage. It’s festooned with skulls and scabbards and features two working restrooms (though the men’s only has a urinal).

Did she mention it’s a pirate ship?

OK, technically it’s a parade float, not an actual ship. But in Tampa, where dozens of pirate floats hit the streets each spring for a

Hanover to build elementary school with no gendered

The Hanover County Public Schools division will be among the first in Virginia to build a school with no gendered bathrooms.

Designers presented final renderings of the new John M. Gandy Elementary at a Hanover County School Board meeting last week.

There will be individual toilet rooms in every wing on every floor for second through fifth grades. Each stall has complete privacy, with partitions from the ceiling to the floor with no gaps, according to designers from Crabtree, Rohrbaugh, & Associates.

Starbucks changes bathroom policy prompted by Philadelphia

Starbucks is modifying its open-bathroom policy that allowed anyone to use the restroom at its stores. Employees now have the option to close bathrooms if there are safety concerns.

The open-bathroom policy was prompted by the controversial arrest of two Black men in a Philadelphia Starbucks in 2018. The Seattle-based coffee chain announced Monday that store employees would be able to close bathrooms if it wasn’t possible to maintain safety.

The policy tweak came as part of an announcement that Starbucks would be closing 16 stores across the country, including one in Center City.

Philly Starbucks Allowed to Close Public Bathrooms After

  • Starbucks staffers in Philadelphia are permitted to close public bathrooms in the event of safety concerns.
  • The shift comes after the company enacted an open-bathroom policy in 2018 following the arrest of two Black men.
  • According to a Starbucks spokesperson, the Philadelphia shift is “not a change of policy” and instead a reiteration of existing policy that empowers employees to maintain safety.

Starbucks employees in Philadelphia can now close public bathrooms for perceived safety concerns — an apparent shift from the company’s existing open-bathroom policy.

As first reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, the ability to close

How Bad Are the Germs in Public Restrooms, Really?

More important than whether you use a cover, or sit or hover, is how well you clean your hands after using the bathroom, Dr. Donner said. Thanks to the toilet plume effect and the use of hand air dryers, which she said can spread germs from wet hands or nearby open trash cans as far as 10 feet, any surface in a public restroom — flush handles, stall latches, sink taps and exit doors, for example — can be contaminated. And the most common route of infection is “the charmingly termed ‘fecal-oral route,’” which occurs when pathogens from an infected
